A person of mixed heritage might have human and elven parents, human and dwarven family roots, halfling and gnomish ancestry, or another blended family history. By default, this is narrative heritage: choose one published D&D Beyond species rules package and describe the character’s broader ancestry through appearance, family, culture, and background. Some communities treat mixed families as ordinary. Others are more judgmental, especially where inheritance, citizenship, guild membership, or old grudges matter.

At the Grand Scholarium, mixed heritage can be an asset. A student who understands two cultures may navigate rival departments, foreign archives, family expectations, and social assumptions better than anyone else.

Character Questions

  • Which side of your family shaped your upbringing most?
  • Do people try to claim you, exclude you, categorize you, or use you as a bridge?
  • Are you tired of being asked to explain an entire culture you only half belong to?
  • What expectation have you inherited that you do not want?
