Dwarves
Dwarves are most strongly associated with Dunhuld, the great subterranean kingdom carved beneath the northwestern Worldspine Mountains. Dunhuld’s halls are places of stone, heat, metal, mathematics, pressure, and tradition. Its people are famous for mining, metallurgy, forgecraft, architecture, industrial discipline, and machines that keep working after everyone else’s prototypes have caught fire.
Dwarven culture prizes durability. A thing should last. A promise should matter. A tool should be understood before it is trusted. A person’s word should be as load-bearing as a bridge support.
This does not mean all dwarves are humorless traditionalists. Dunhuld has poets, radicals, musicians, brewers, dissidents, philosophers, and students who came to Auralis specifically because they were tired of everyone back home asking whether their research had “practical load tolerance.”
Dwarves at the Grand Scholarium
Dwarves are respected in the Measure Yards, the foundries, architectural colleges, military engineering programs, and any department that needs something built safely. A dwarven student may find that professors trust their technical discipline but underestimate their creativity.
Dwarven characters fit especially well as:
- engineers,
- artificers,
- smiths,
- architects,
- demolition experts,
- defensive mages,
- historians of ruined infrastructure,
- quartermasters,
- medics with battlefield discipline,
- or students comparing Dunhuld craft with Auralian theory.
Common Dwarven Pressures
A dwarven student may be asked:
- Are you loyal to Dunhuld’s way of doing things, or did you come to Auralis to challenge it?
- Do you trust magic, machinery, or only what survives stress testing?
- Does your family expect you to return home with knowledge, contracts, patents, or prestige?
