Unlike wizards, they do not begin with diagrams. Unlike artificers, they do not need a prepared device for every effect. Unlike clerics, they may not call on a god. Unlike bards, they may not shape power through performance.
A sorcerer’s body is part of the mystery.
For reasons scholars do not fully understand, some people have an innate affinity for Aether. Their bodies can serve as living matrices, allowing them to shape power directly through instinct, emotion, will, bloodline, trauma, exposure, or strange inheritance. Some react strongly to ambient Aether or Starshard residue, producing effects that may be dangerous, exhausting, or socially alarming.
Sorcerers and Magic
Sorcerers often learn by surviving themselves. Their magic may come in dreams, accidents, panic, anger, joy, illness, or sudden moments of clarity.
This makes them flexible in ways formal casters envy. It also means their training can be uneven. A sorcerer may be brilliant at effects that match their nature and helplessly clumsy at things a first-year wizard can do with a ruler and chalk.
People may call sorcerers blessed, cursed, unstable, gifted, shard-touched, moon-marked, or dangerous. The label depends on who saw the first accident.
Sorcerers at the Grand Scholarium
The Scholarium is both opportunity and threat for a sorcerer. It offers tools, mentors, safety procedures, and theory. It also offers tests, suspicion, and professors who may treat a living person like a research subject.
