Chapter 5 · Classes of the Realm

Cleric

Clerics are the most visible miracle-workers in Aeloria. They serve temples, shrines, moon chapels, battlefield infirmaries, old village sanctuaries, civic hospitals, and philosophical orders.

Clerics are the most visible miracle-workers in Aeloria. They serve temples, shrines, moon chapels, battlefield infirmaries, old village sanctuaries, civic hospitals, and philosophical orders.

To the people of the world, clerical magic is the power of faith. A cleric prays, lifts a holy symbol, invokes an old god, a moon, a saint, an ancestral protector, or a sacred principle, and something answers.

That answer matters more to most people than any theory behind it.

Clerics and Magic

Clerics use devotion as focus. Their holy symbols are often carefully made and may include Starshard chips, moon-metal, relic fragments, blessed wood, river-stone, bone, gold leaf, or inherited charms.

A cleric’s magic is not usually treated like laboratory casting. It is ritual, prayer, surrender, discipline, and need. When a cleric heals the dying or turns back horror, witnesses do not ask for a diagram. They kneel, weep, thank the gods, or decide never to mock temple bells again.

Different traditions interpret miracles differently:

  • Old moon priests speak of blessing.
  • Civic healers speak of sacred duty.
  • Rural shrine-keepers speak of relationship with place and memory.
  • Rationalist theologians speak of divine principles made manifest.
  • Skeptical scholars speak very carefully when clerics are in the room.

Clerics at the Grand Scholarium

A cleric at the Scholarium may be admired, questioned, tested, resented, or recruited. They stand at the intersection of faith and modern inquiry. Some professors see them as proof that the gods remain active. Others see them as evidence of an unknown law waiting to be measured.

They fit especially well as:

  • medical students,
  • shrine attendants,
  • theology scholars,
  • moon-priests in training,
  • battlefield healers,
  • ethical investigators,
  • keepers of campus rites,
  • or students trying to reconcile faith with scholarship.

Suggested Scholarium Connections

  • Mending Ward — Healer Kaelen of the Silver Light
  • Ethical Containment — Professor Brenda Iron-Ward
  • Arcane Law — Magister Vex
  • Campus rites and approved moon observances

Character Questions

  • Which god, moon, saint, principle, or sacred tradition do you serve?
  • Is your faith calm, joyful, wounded, demanding, or desperate?
  • Does the Scholarium strengthen your belief or challenge it?
  • What miracle convinced you your calling was real?
