A wizard may spend an hour preparing chalk circles, prism angles, formulae, and exacting diagrams. A bard may step into the same room, hear the tension in the air, strike a chord, tell a story, and produce an effect that no one can easily explain.
This does not mean bardic magic is easy. Not everyone can become a bard simply by learning music. True bards possess a rare sensitivity to the world’s natural harmonies. They feel changes in mood, rhythm, pressure, silence, memory, and motion. They do not merely perform. They listen to reality until they find the place where a song, word, gesture, or emotion can move it.
Bards and Magic
To most people, bards are performers, diplomats, poets, satirists, historians, or social magicians. They may charm a crowd, steady a frightened ally, unravel a curse with a lullaby, or turn a duel with a cutting phrase.
Scholars argue over why it works. Some claim bards use crude instinct where wizards use precision. Some claim bardic magic is a lost art disguised as entertainment. Bards usually smile and let the scholars keep arguing.
A bard might use:

- dance,
- storytelling,
- dramatic timing,
- insults,

- or a single perfectly placed silence.
