Artificer
Artificer
Artificers are everywhere in modern Aeloria. If wizards are the theorists of magic, artificers are the people who ask whether the theory can lift a bridge, seal a wound, power a lamp, stabilize an experimental lift vane, or survive being dropped from a second-story window.
Artificers
Artificers are everywhere in modern Aeloria. If wizards are the theorists of magic, artificers are the people who ask whether the theory can lift a bridge, seal a wound, power a lamp, stabilize an experimental lift vane, or survive being dropped from a second-story window.
They are among the most common magical specialists in the Grand Scholarium because Aeloria is a Magitek society. The world needs people who can work with tools, foci, Starshard housings, lenses, springs, pressure chambers, etched plates, warded hinges, insulated gloves, and emergency shutoff levers.
An artificer may not be able to explain every metaphysical truth of Aether, but they know what happens when a regulator is misaligned, a shard sings too sharply, or a student forgets to ground a testing frame.
Artificers and Magic
Artificers approach magic through construction. Their spells are often understood as effects produced by prepared devices, calibrated foci, alchemical charges, tools, sigils, lenses, and clever workarounds.
An artificer may cast through:
- a Starshard-inlaid gauntlet,
- a brass-and-glass measuring rod,
- an alchemical sprayer,
- a collapsible ward frame,
- a tuning fork and insulated pliers,
- a set of etched cards,
- a mechanical familiar,
- or a tool kit that looks ordinary until it starts humming.
They are respected because their magic is practical. They are feared because practical magic can fail very practically.
Artificers at the Grand Scholarium
Artificers thrive in the Measure Yards, applied workshops, prototype halls, patent offices, field laboratories, and maintenance tunnels beneath the campus.
They fit especially well as:
- student inventors,
- laboratory assistants,
- patent rivals,
- scholarship technicians,
- military engineers,
- repair prodigies,
- field researchers,
- safety inspectors,
- or the person everyone asks to fix the thing that definitely should not be smoking.
